Restoring Your Tooth’s Function and Appearance
Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Crowns?
Before placing your crowns, we will also assess your oral health to ensure that your crowns are placed on a stable, healthy foundation.
Any gum disease or other issues must be resolved before we can place your crown.
The use of digital x-rays and an intraoral camera help us to conduct a thorough assessment of your needs.
Dental Crown Materials
Depending on the location of your affected tooth and your preferences, we can provide crowns made entirely of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold.
While all-porcelain crowns are usually recommended for front teeth, crowns made partially or entirely of metal are often recommended to restore back teeth.
Dental Implant-Supported Dental Crowns
In the past, dental bridges were the most common solution for single missing teeth. However, with the advent of the dental implant, many patients choose to replace single teeth with implant-supported crowns. While traditional bridges can certainly restore function and aesthetics, they require the alteration of healthy adjacent teeth that serve to restore the bridge. Traditional bridge wearers also experience eventual bone recession below the restoration, a natural result of missing tooth roots.

Why do we Need Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns protect your natural teeth from the wear and tear of chewing food. This makes it possible to eat whatever you want without causing any damage to your teeth.
If you think you may need a dental crown, Dr. Pramod Thomas can assess your candidacy for a dental crown.

The dentist will put the dental crown on your tooth after taking an impression of your teeth. He will then send the impression to a lab. The lab will make the dental crown. The dentist will then take the new crown back to you to cement it onto your teeth. All in all, the process should take a few short weeks.
Ice cream is okay with a dental crown.
Creating and Placing Dental Crowns
Once your teeth have been treated (or your dental implant is in place and surrounding tissues have healed), one of our doctors will take impressions of your smile.
These impressions will then be sent to a trusted offsite lab, where a skilled ceramist will craft your restoration.
Once your crowns are ready for placement – usually within two to four weeks – you will return for a restorative dentistry visit to have them placed.
Your dentist will make certain that the fit is correct and that your bite is comfortable.
Any necessary adjustments can be made at this time.
